Let me share with you so many of the beeswax candles benefits that will leave you wanting to switch out your toxic candles! In all of my beeswax candles research over the years, I continue to find overwhelmingly positive things about beeswax candles.
Beeswax candles are better for you all around! But to be honest, they can get pretty pricey if you are purchasing them. This is why I decided to learn to make my own and found out just how easy it really is! So now I can get all the benefits at a fraction of the cost!
Is beeswax good for candles?
Yes!! Beeswax is actually the best candle wax for candle making, and here are the reasons why!
1) Longer burn time
Beeswax has the highest melting point of any wax out there! This translates into longer burn times for your candles. Beeswax candles burn time far surpasses any other candle wax. For example, a 4 oz candle should burn for about 20-22 hours.
Since beeswax is a hard wax, it should not be burned for short periods of time to prevent tunneling. It may take 2, 3, or even 4 hours of burning for the wax to melt to the edge of the jar. This will promote a more even burn.
2) No soot, less drip
Beeswax candles are the cleanest burning candle, meaning it does not release soot. Imagine that! I’ve had many grey-black spots on my walls and ceiling from soot so this was a huge plus for me!
Beeswax candles also have a tendency to drip less than even soy candles!
3) Purifies the air
Have you heard of the benefits of beeswax candles negative ions? When beeswax candles are burned, they produce negative ions. These help neutralize pollutants in the air like pollen, odors, mold, dirt, and dust as these carry a positive charge. So not only is it non-toxic, but it actually helps purify the air you breathe!
Because of its cleansing nature, these candles are a great option for people with asthma, allergies, and sinus issues. There are absolutely no toxic byproducts created when burning beeswax candles.
4) Most pure light
Beeswax candles emit light that is similar to the light spectrum of sunlight. Due to its higher melting point, it produces the brightest, most warm-toned flame. This light is warm and the closest to natural daylight.
Beeswax candles also produce the purest light compared to any other candle! This helps reduce eye strain compared to traditional candles which produce a very artificial color
5) Beeswax candles are safe
Since beeswax candles have a higher melting point and are soot-free, It also reduces the chances for fires as a result of soot buildup or dripped wax falling on a flammable surface.
Since they drip far less, it also reduces the risk of burns from the excessive dripping you get from traditional candles.
6) Non-toxic
Since beeswax is naturally provided to us by bees, there are no chemical additives needed in order to make the candles; Making it the least processed candle wax.
Are scented beeswax candles toxic?
It is definitely possible to make nontoxic, scented beeswax candles! Just be sure to use natural and organic essential oils!
Essential oils can be added for scented beeswax candles. However, it is more cost effective to diffuse your oils than use so much of it in the candle. If you choose to add oils, be sure to add it once the wax has cooled to around 125 degrees to ensure the strongest scent.
100% pure beeswax candles, or even ones with just coconut oil added, naturally have a very light and subtle earthy-sweet honey scent.
Pin it for later!
7) No health risks
There is no conclusive evidence of beeswax candles being damaging to your health. However, beware of what quality candles you are buying so that you get the real deal!
Pure beeswax candles?
The word “pure” in the US refers to only 51% of a product. So if a candle is mostly beeswax, it can legally be labeled as “pure”. Be sure to purchase 100% pure to avoid health risks from added paraffin or soy to your candle. The coconut oil in my homemade beeswax candles can be omitted for a pure beeswax candle, but there are benefits to adding coconut oil to beeswax candles.
Do not let the fear of candle making stop you from saving some money and getting the best out there! Whether you make them yourself, or purchase high quality beeswax candles, they are still far superior to any other candle and the best for you!
