Reasons you will love your DIY laundry scent booster!
It Is CHEAP!
It is not very often that you hear the words “non-toxic”, “natural”, and “cheap” in the same sentence, but I am so grateful that in this case, it is true! I am always looking for ways to save my family money while still using quality products that are not harmful. This is a way to do both!
Essential oils are the most expensive part, but even then, it is still much less than store-bought laundry scent boosters. Keep in mind, that you only need about 2 tbs per load!
Customizable Scents
When buying conventional laundry scent boosters, you are limited to the scents offered. Meanwhile, this is totally customizable!
Non-Toxic
Store-bought laundry products contain artificial fragrances that are harmful to you and those in your home. Continuously using these can cause various health issues, trigger allergic reactions, and cause skin irritation.
By making your own scent booster, you are ensuring clean, natural ingredients and avoiding toxic chemicals in the products and artificial fragrances.
DIY Natural Laundry Scent Booster Ingredients
Epsom Salt Or Kosher Salt
This recipe doubles as a fabric softener too! Most homemade fabric softeners are made with epsom salts. The chloride in the salt will help keep your clothing whiter and brighter too!
*Some people are concerned that continuously using epsom salt in your washing machine may cause damage over time if you have hard water. If this is true for you too, then feel free to use kosher salt instead.
Baking Soda
This recipe seriously just gets better and better. Baking soda will help keep your whites brighter, help remove stains, and prevent your colors from bleeding. It is a natural deodorizer and helps keep your clothing from smelling musty.
Essential Oils
Okay, I get serious about essential oils. It is frustrating how so many people may think they are doing something right by getting essential oils, but then be causing more harm than good!
Please beware of which oils you are purchasing! This industry is not regulated by the FDA. There are no regulations on what qualifies as “100% pure” oil. More inexpensive oils are covered in toxic chemicals! I use this brand, but do your research! Here is a comprehensive list of the top 10 oil brands. Just make sure you know what you’re putting on your skin.

How to use homemade natural laundry scent booster
After you put in your load, use 2 tbs-1/4 cup sprinkled on top of the dirty laundry. Use the normal amount of laundry soap and wash as normal. You do not need to use this in every load, just the extra stinky ones like workout clothes.
This laundry scent booster recipe is safe to use on HE washers.

Tips
Do not store in a plastic container, as the oils are too strong and will eat through the plastic.
Scent booster is good for at least a year, so you can make it in bulk, just be sure to properly store and seal.
